Geek Out with Amira Jamal
The Power of Learning Styles
Episode 22 of the Belly Dance Geek Clubhouse:
My guest, Amira Jamal, will talk about different learning styles.
We’ll approach this from both the teacher and student perspective.
You’ll Learn:
- What learning styles are
- How they help teachers get through to their students
- Specific techniques for accommodating different learning styles
- Why understanding your own learning style helps you get more out of class AND practice time
- What to do if your teacher isn’t accommodating your learning style
We’ll also have some discussion time, so you can ask questions too.
About Amira Jamal
Amira Jamal has been a pioneer in the teaching of belly dance with her “Visual Vocabulary” as part of her book “Language of the Dance” and also in teaching teachers how to teach, by exploring learning styles and needs of dance students.
She was one of the founders of the New England Belly Dance Association (NBDA) and the first teacher in Boston to give classes in performance skills and group professional coaching.
Her first lesson was in 1974 and FORTY years later, she is still active in the community both as a teacher and a performer, although being a grandma has now taken on prime importance in her life!
Amira teaches privately and is a member of The Silver Zills – a wonderful dance troupe made up of ladies of a certain age.

Note from Nadira: Amira was also my teacher. She taught me to dance, how to critique, and how to teach. But most importantly, she taught me how to think about dance. So you’re in for a real treat!
