Episode 20 of the Belly Dance Geek Clubhouse:
My guest, Rhea of Greece will talk about the early dance scene in San Francisco.
You’ll love her stories!
Rhea will tell us about her time in Jamila Salimpour’s troupe Bal Anat, the hippie movement, her decades-long international dance journey, and much more.
We’ll also have some discussion time, so you can participate too.
About Rhea
Rhea of Greece has captivated students and audiences worldwide with her magnetic personality, spellbinding stories, maverick spirit and dynamic dance technique, which blends principles of ancient Greek dance with modern Turkish cabaret.
Rhea’s journey in belly dance began with her teacher and mentor, Jamila Salimpour, who made Rhea the first sword dancer in Troupe Bal Anat. In 1977, Rhea left the U.S. to explore the various sources of belly dancing in the Middle East.
After seeing the then reigning stars of the day, Zohair Zaki & Nagwa Fouad, and dancing in Egypt herself, Rhea settled in Athens, setting up a small studio à la Isadora Duncan at the base of the Acropolis.
