Imagery in Belly Dance

Surprise!
I made a holiday gift for you.
I’ve been experimenting with different ways to use video, and I wanted to step outside the usual “talk, point, and dance” model.
So I set myself a challenge:
Could I teach a performance concept – and get the viewer actually using it – without doing any on-screen demonstrations?
Well, it worked!
My experiment turned out so well that I decided it was too good not to share.
So I’m giving it to you for free as a holiday gift.
Introducing Imagery in Belly Dance
In this 35-minute instructional video, I’m going to show you how to incorporate imagery in your dancing.
Imagery is a powerful performance tool.
It helps you slow down, express yourself more clearly on stage, and think more creatively. It also helps you invite the audience into the moment.
You’ll learn:
- What is imagery
- How imagery enriches your dancing
- Guided exercises to help you incorporate imagery into your own dance
- 4 of my favorite images (plus dozens of variations)
Runtime: 35 minutes
You’ll Need:
1) Slow music you love
These exercises include voice cues, but no music, so you can put on the music that inspires you. I like to use a smoky Chiftetelli, like Phaedra’s Veil* by Mal Barsamian, but feel free to use any slow music that you really love. You can put the same song on repeat, or put together a half-hour playlist.
2) A pen & paper
The reflection exercises are an integral part of this program, so keep something to write with nearby.
3) 35 minutes of peace and quiet
Pick a time when you can work through this entire program uninterrupted. Nothing breaks your flow like the phone ringing.
